At Fields Chrysler Jeep Dodge, we take pride in the fact that our cars make a difference in the lives of our customers, and as we refine our approach to production and technology, we're also excited to learn that our vehicles' features are changing whole professions.

When the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) took a moment to reconsider its in-cruiser laptop system, the organization identified a few areas for improvement, and you can take one guess as to who stepped up for the job. That's right: Chrysler. Chrysler Group and its Uconnect brand have taken on the task of ensuring greater officer safety with the innovative solutions that consumers - and now public service agencies - have come to expect.

What exactly was their task? While the LAPD has come to rely on in-unit computers to achieve such tasks as information storage and transmission as well as warrant and license plate scans, the fact of the matter is that computers take up valuable cruiser space, and if a collision should occur, they present a higher danger than many smaller devices.

For the Chrysler Group, this was a no-brainer. The Uconnect system, which was designed for ease of use, was a clear answer to the force's needs, and they put no delay on the task. Chrysler Group joined forces with Continental Engineering Services in order to provide the LAPD with a high-resolution, police-specific 12.1-inch screen that displays all the data, video and graphics they need to get the job done.

A plug-in keyboard that can be stowed separately from the Uconnect system is used to operate the simplified system. Now the LAPD is always just one button away from activating any and all vehicle operations.

Northfield Chrysler drivers already love the Uconnect system for its user-friendly capabilities, and we think the LAPD will feel just the same as they enjoy the benefits of a job made easier.
