A flat tire is undoubtedly an inconvenience, but it doesn’t have to put a stop to all the fun. Whether you want to change the tire yourself or contact Jeep® roadside assistance, these tips from Fields Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM Glenview can help.

Make Safety Your Top Priority

Before you do anything, make sure that you are safe. Navigate your vehicle out of traffic, if you can. If you can’t safely move your vehicle, or if your surroundings feel unsafe, it’s best to call for help.

Change Your Tire

Changing your tire can be a quick process if it’s something you’re familiar with.

Follow these steps carefully:

  • Turn on your hazard lights
  • Turn on your parking brake and apply wheel wedges to the other tires
  • Loosen your lug nuts (but don’t remove them completely)
  • Use your jack to raise your vehicle so that your tire is completely off the ground
  • Take the lug nuts off completely and remove your tire
  • Put your spare tire on and reattach and (loosely) tighten the lug nuts
  • Lower your vehicle to the ground and tighten the lug nuts completely

Contact Roadside Assistance for Help

If you need help with your flat tire change, roadside assistance is available to help. Many Jeep vehicles, both new and pre-owned, come with complimentary roadside assistance. They can help with your flat tire replacement, if you have a quality spare, or can tow your vehicle to the nearest authorized service center.
