That’s why we created this guide for one important type of emergency car care: jumpstarting your vehicle.
How to Jump a Car
Knowing how to jump start a car is essential for staying safe on the open road. Fortunately, it’s a simple and efficient process that you can complete on your own or with the help of a friend.
Here’s how you can get started:
- Park the working vehicle close enough to the non-working vehicle so the cables can reach but the cars don’t touch.
- Turn off the ignition on both cars.
- Attach one end of the positive battery cable to the dead battery and the other end to the positive battery on the working vehicle.
- Attach one end of the negative cable to the negative terminal on the working battery. Attach the other end to an unpainted metal surface in the non-working vehicle. Take care not to let the cable clamps touch each other.
- Start the working car and let it run for a few minutes. Then, check the non-working car to see if it's running again. If necessary, bring the vehicle to our Jeep dealership for a closer look.
If the vehicle with the dead battery starts, allow it to run for 20 to 30 minutes so its battery can recharge. If it doesn’t start, check your connections and try again. If you have any remaining questions, visit our Jeep service center to get the help you need.
