As one of the best-established Chrysler dealerships serving Chicago, IL, Fields Chrysler Jeep® Dodge RAM Glenview was thrilled to hear that the Chrysler brand has strengthened its relationship with Waymo. If you’re unfamiliar with Waymo, the company is preparing to launch the world’s first driverless ride-hailing service, and the high-tech Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid has an integral R&D role.

The partnership began in 2016, when FIAT Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) adapted 100 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid models for self-driving and delivered them to Waymo. FCA sent another 500 of these state-of-the-arts minivans to Waymo in 2017, and it is now poised to offer Waymo thousands of Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid models over the course of 2018.

Why is the Chrysler brand so involved? The answer is simple: technology. Take it from FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne who said, “In order to move quickly and efficiently in autonomy, it is essential to partner with like-minded technology leaders.” Given that every Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid near Northfield, IL and elsewhere is the most technologically advanced minivan ever designed, the partnership between Waymo and FCA is a natural fit.

With Waymo poised to debut its autonomous ride-hailing service to the general public in Phoenix this year, and given the company’s successful track record, the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan will be used to support Waymo’s multi-city launch plan which includes Detroit, MI, San Francisco, CA, Atlanta, GA, and Kirkland, WA.

In addition to its high-tech presence, Waymo loves the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid model’s comfortable ride and functional cabin. And when the company began testing its fleet of driverless Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans last November, this automobile became the first to attain Level 4 autonomy – only one level away from a 100% driverless experience!
