Currently in its seventh generation, the 2017 Dodge Charger is one of the hottest full-size sedans in the country, thanks to its class-topping powertrains, sweet-looking body, and huge amount of trim levels and equipment choices. At Fields Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM Glenview, a well-respected Dodge dealer serving Evanston, IL, we’ve been huge fans of this one-of-a-kind performance car for years. It’s come a long way from the show car that debuted in 1964, so let’s jump in the way-back machine and take a look at some highlights.
st generation: Introduced in 1966. Notable for its two-door “fastback” styling, bucket seats, and powerful (especially at the time) V8 engine
nd generation: Hit dealerships in 1968 and increased the model’s popularity thanks to its rounded taillights, undivided grille, and of course its super-cool hidden headlights
rd generation: Spanning the years 1971 - 74, the 3rd-generation Dodge Charger featured a semi-fastback rear window and a ducktail spoiler
th generation: This generation is notable as the only time that the Dodge Charger journeyed into the luxury car segment, with a design far different from the one we know today
th generation: In production for seven years, the 5th-generation Dodge Charger was a subcompact hatchback coupe with an available turbocharged engine and a five-speed manual transmission. 1987 was this generation’s last production year.
th generation: After a 19-year hiatus, the Dodge Charger returned with vigor for the 2006 model year. This four-door sedan shares many similarities with the current generation.
th generation: Building on the 6th generation’s retro look and performance-oriented focus, the 7th generation began in 2011 and is reflected in every 2017 Dodge Charger near Skokie, IL. Great looks + stupendous power + premium features = four-wheeled dynamite!
