What need does your Chrysler vehicle fulfill in your life? The need to get around? The need to be happy? The need to care for your family? Chrysler has long considered its fulfillment of needs like these to be a privilege, and this summer, the automaker has dedicated itself to fulfilling other needs, like that for food, and the honor is truly great.
Beginning today and every Friday through August 31, the Chrysler Foundation and Chrysler Group LLC will do their part in helping to feed hungry children in Michigan, one in five of which struggle to receive nutritious food in their daily lives. Whether here in our very neighborhood, a few states away or around the world, Fields Chrysler Jeep Dodge supports any and all efforts to care for children in need, and that's why we're proud to be a part of a company that puts the needs of Michigan children at the forefront of their philanthropic work.
For two days this week, Chrysler Group employees worked together to fill 12,000 backpacks with nutritious food to be distributed at select Detroit Summer Food Service Program sites for the remainder of the summer. Those backpacks will provide area children with what amounts to 72,000 healthy meals. Efforts like these to fight hunger and malnutrition close to home help Chrysler connect with its communities through more than simply selling vehicles.
But we're not in it alone. Chrysler Group LLC and the Chrysler Foundation have joined forces with United Way for Southeastern Michigan (UWSEM) and Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan to provide local children with the nutrition they deserve while also spreading awareness of summer food programs.
Every child who picks up a backpack will be taking home cut green beans, beef ravioli, spaghetti and meatballs, sliced peaches, shelf stable milk and raisin bran cereal. On top of the six meals that this food is expected to provide, children will also receive meals upon their visits to the food site. The $60,000 cost of providing these meals was underwritten by The Chrysler Foundation while Chrysler Group supplied the bags and volunteers.
If you're proud of your Chrysler Town & Country, Skokie, then join us in celebrating Chrysler's efforts to feed local children along with Gleaners and UWSEM!
