Wondering what it’s like to drive the new Jeep® Wrangler? Here we go over its key performance features:

Power and Drivetrain

When it comes to power, you’ll have no complaints with what the Jeep Wrangler offers. The base engine is a 3.6-liter V6 that produces 285 horsepower and lb-ft of torque. There are also four others to choose from:

  • Turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder: 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque
  • Turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel V6: 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque
  • Turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder and two electric motors: 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque
  • 4-liter V8: 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque

A six-speed manual transmission is standard, while an eight-speed automatic is available.

Off-Road Ability

All Jeep models are fantastic off-road, and the Jeep Wrangler may be the best of the bunch. In addition to four-wheel drive, standard features include multiple skid plates, high- and low-range gearing, and 9.7 inches of ground clearance. For a true off-road beast, you’ll want the Rubicon trim — it comes with 33-inch all-terrain tires, rock sliders, and heavy-duty Fox shock absorbers. Locking front and rear differentials are standard as well.

Gas Mileage

For the compact SUV class, the Jeep Wrangler has pretty solid gas mileage, and this varies based on which engine and transmission you choose:

  • V6, manual: 17/25 MPG city/highway
  • V6, automatic: 18/23 MPG
  • V6 mild-hybrid, automatic: 20/24 MPG
  • Turbo-four, automatic: 22/24 MPG
  • Turbodiesel, automatic: 22/29 MPG
  • V8, automatic: 13/17 MPG
  • 4xe plug-in hybrid, automatic: 49 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) combined MPG with electric power; 20 combined MPG with gas power
