As a leading Chrysler dealership serving Chicago, IL, we understand that there are quite a few high-quality carmakers in the world. However great other brands might be, few have a history as fascinating as Chrysler. The birth, growth, and longevity of Chrysler and the American experience in the 20th and 21st century are indelibly intertwined. At Fields Chrysler Jeep Dodge Glenview, we are extremely proud of all the cars, trucks, and SUVs we sell, but we have a special affinity for the Chrysler brand. To us, when you're driving around Chicago and you see the winged logo on a wagon or van like the 2016 Chrysler Town & Country, you know you will find a vehicle that is affordable, durable, and luxurious. To understand how Chrysler became an American icon, let's take a closer look at its history.
The History of Chrysler
According to the historians at Chrysler, it all started in 1920, when Walter P. Chrysler joined forces with Fred Zeder, Owen Skelton, and Carl Breer, all of who were former Studebaker engineers. They decided the time was right for a stylish and groundbreaking luxury car that would not cost a fortune. It certainly was a change because at the time, cars were either extremely utilitarian (the Ford Model T) or so fancy only the ultra-rich could afford to drive them (Duesenberg). Their first model was the 1924 Chrysler Six which included such innovations as the high-compression six-cylinder engine and standard four-wheel hydraulic brakes. During the 1930's Chrysler kept changing the way cars were made, leading the way with additions like the replaceable oil filter, and one-piece curved windshields. As time went on the firsts just kept rolling in, including the HEMI® engine, safety cushion dashboard, push-button transmission, power steering, and of course the Minivan. Recently Chrysler made history again by investing close to a billion dollars in a Michigan factory to build cars for drivers in the Evanston, IL area like the 2016 Chrysler 200, which is extremely popular at Chrysler dealerships like ours.
The 2016 Chrysler 200 and the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica
No two vehicles do a better job of highlighting the innovation, style, and durability of the Chrysler brand like the 2016 Chrysler 200 and the all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The 2016 Chrysler 200, which comes in four trim levels, offers an available 295-horsepower 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine that delivers 262 lb-ft of torque that makes it the most powerful sedan in its class. Replacing the famed Chrysler Town & Country, we firmly believe that the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica will completely change the way people look at the minivan. With 102 available features and unsurpassed fuel efficiency, you are going to want to come down to Fields Chrysler Jeep Dodge Glenview and take one for a test drive as soon as possible.
